Do you know the four most common uses of "nach" and how to use them in conversation? 

 The first most common way to use "nach" is when you want to say that you're going to another country:

"Nach" is used with any name of a place that does not have an article. 

 

  • "nach" + countries, cities or continents (direction)
Wir möchten im Dezember nach Kanada fliegen.

We want to fly to Canada in December.

Auf Wiedersehen, wir fahren jetzt nach Hamburg.
Goodbye, we're going to Hamburg now.
How would you say "We are flying to America."

  • "nach" is used together with adverbs of direction when describing something.

 Lets look at an example:

Imaging before you get started on your flight you're looking - "nach oben", to the top and to the bottom "nach unten". Then you look to the left, "nach links". Perhaps you also look "nach hinten", backwards to make sure everything is in order. In this context it means "to".

  • The third most common way to use "nach" is when you want to say  "after work" or when you want to tell the time: "quarter past"

Es ist Viertel nach sieben.

nach Hause is an expression that means home - as in “I’m going home”.
