A “deal” is an agreement or arrangement. It is translated as "das Geschäft, der Handel, der Abschluss or das Abkommen" – or, sometimes, as "der Deal."
The phrases “good deal” and “bad deal” refer to the price or conditions of an arrangement: “He offered me a good deal on the new car.” – "Er hat mir ein gutes Angebot für das neue Auto gemacht." When we talk about "ein Geschäft abschließen" wtalk about “striking”, “finalizing”, “closing” or “wrapping up a deal”."When the deal or the contract is done, you can say, "Deal!": "Abgemacht!"
A “deal” can also be a contract. In this case, we translate it as  "der Vertrag": "Das Unternehmen hat einen Arbeitsvertrag unterschrieben." The company has signed an employment contract. “A great/good deal of effort and money” - "viel Mühe und Aufwand":  “The negotiations took a great deal of work.” — "Die Verhandlungen haben viel Arbeit gekostet."
“A big deal” - eine wichtige Sache - is something very important. We might also say to someone: “Don’t make (such) a big deal out of it!” — "Mach doch bitte keine so große Sache daraus!"
Translate the following sentences.

a) We invested a great deal of money in this deal.
